Roos'n'more

I can't believe I am just blogging about this! A couple weekends ago Neal and I made a quick trip down to Moapa, Nevada. It's about an hour away from our home so we just made an afternoon out of it. My teammate told me about this private petting zoo that is owned by retired vetrinarians. She put some pictures up on her blog and I knew that I just HAD to go!

The owners of the property and animals open up to the public just a couple times a year. They have a website with the specific dates that they let the public come in and play with the animals. I had this weekend planned for months!

We pulled up to the property and entered into the private gates. It was flooded with people! I ran straight to the kangaroo exhibit (aka playpens) to hold the brand new babies.... or joey's :)
This little one was my absolute favorite! I could have stayed there all day long. It's a rare albino kangaroo. She was even sucking on her thumb! The joey was just under 10 weeks old. Her mother was a rescue. In fact, most of the animals are rescues or endangered species.
We couldn't get enough of this little one! She would just snuggle up against your chest and suck her thumb. It was beyond adorable. I tried convincing Neal to stuff her in his shirt and make a run for it. I think Lenny and Oscy would like a new sister, don't you? :)
Ok- this is where it got to be too much for me! Neal was HOPING that he would be able to hold a big snake today. That's all he cared about was whether or not they'd have a snake for him to hold. Sure enough, a 10ft python was out there in the open. I guess it was just slithering around on the ground when we first got there. I subconciously avoided it until the owner was holding it safely. We walked over and Neal stepped right up to hold the thing. I was disgusted!

And by the looks of it... so was he... at first.

Once the thing started slithering all over him and wrapping around him he started to calm down. Um... hello!?! You are holding a giant snake!!! I couldn't believe how brave he was! By the time we left he finally convinced me to hold it. I said that the only way I was going to hold the thing is if he took a quick picture of me and then he had to promise to get the snake off of me. So I gathered all the courage I had and held the giant man eating snake. I forced a cheesy grin hoping I looked somewhat decent for my photo opp. And then the inevitable happens... Neal informs me that the camera died.

I about dropped the snake and ran! I risked my life to hold this snake and get a picture and now I couldn't even have a picture of the experience!!! My motto is, if you don't get a picture... it didn't happen. So I was over it. I screamed for Neal to take the snake and I couldn't get away from there fast enough!

Next up was the cousin of the racoon. I forgot the name of the species but they are endangered and Roos'n'more has about 5 of them! He was the cutest little thing and very curious. He would try to go down your shirt, sniff your pockets, dig at your shoes, ect. We loved playing around with this little guy!

I love this picture because he looks like he's smiling... and I have a creeper in the back that was a little freaked out I let him crawl all over me.
We got to see beautiful exotic birds! Nealio started petting this one and you could almost hear him purr, he loved it so much. The bird... not Neal. Neal doesn't purr.
Here are the crazy LEMURS!!! I couldn't stop thinking about the movie Madagascar! haha They were so funny when we were feeding them fresh fruit. They kept jumping all over the cage, going back and forth, and trying their best to get the most food.

This was the best experience of the entire day. We got to see a little Capuchen Monkey (same species as the one on The Hangover and Night At The Museum. This monkey took a real liking to Neal. He jumped right up on his shoulder as soon as Neal walked over to him. Neal tried feeding him a carrot. The monkey grabbed the carrot from him, tried taking a couple bits, and then decided to force feed the carrot to Neal! Everyone around us was dying laughing! This monkey was trying so hard to get it carrot into Neal's mouth. The monkey even tried to pry open Neal's lips!!! Neal, being the animal lover that he is, gave in and bit off a piece of the carrot and fed it to the monkey.

We had so much fun playing with him that day. I always thought I would want a monkey as a pet but after that experience I learned that they are a lot to handle! He was all over the place, worse than a toddler! I couldn't handle it haha So I'm just going to have to settle with visiting Roos'n'more once a year to see the monkeys :)

Cute/Dirty little wild pig :)
We got to spend some time with the miniature horse and baby zebra. This one loved me!
Ever since watching the show Expedition Impossible, we are both deathly afraid of camels. All we know is that they spit on you and step on you.... or at least they are capable of doing that. This camels were so sweet! The one below walked right up to me. As soon as I started petting him and layed down right next to me. I think I got over my fear of camels that day :)
And last but certainly not least... I paid another visit to my favorite girl again right before we left. I love her so much! I want a joey so bad now haha
Our little trip was more than worth it! We only paid $10 each to see over 100 animals! I would recommend this place to anyone. Especially if you have kids. The workers and family members there do a great job educating the visitors about each animal. All the animals are so gentle and love being around people. It truly is an amazing little place. I can't wait to go back there!
