Oh, the places you'll go!

After we got married Neal and I cleaned out his closet at his parents house. We came across one of his favorite childhood books and decided to keep it for our future children. Well- now that the future is staring us in the face and we have only 3 months left until Liam gets here, we decided to pull out the book to put in the nursery.

Late last night as we were preparing to go to bed I was trying to tell Neal all the things that we have planned for this month. I kept saying things like, "I can't wait until the BBQ tomorrow, next weekend's football game is going to be so much fun, I'm so excited about going to the cabin with my family!" He stopped me mid sentance and asked if we could just spend time together as a family. So I stopped... and waited... and he pulled out the book- "Oh, the places you'll go".

We read this book aloud together when we first found out we were pregnant. It was about time that we took it off the shelf again and read to our sweet little Liam. He's now developed enough that he can hear and respond to sounds so Neal began reading to him in his best 'children's book' voice possible. It was our own little family story time :)

As Neal layed by my side he spoke right to my belly so Liam could hear everything. Liam kept moving everytime he heard Neal speak, it was amazing. I love that we both can feel him and share moments like that together.
As we went on reading we got to the part that talks about the people that wait for things to happen to them.

"..for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.Everyone is just waiting."

"Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting." -Dr. Suess

As Neal was reading this to us I thought to myself, "I'm so glad I'm not that type of person. I never do that!" When in reality, that is EXACTLY what I was doing before we started reading the book! I was waiting for all the fun things that are going to happen in the coming weeks. I wasn't even thinking about living in the moment and cherishing the time I'm spending with my husband right now.

As he finished the book I began to cry as I realized how special this moment in time was for us as a family. We weren't doing anything fun or extravagant but I will never forget laying in bed last night with Neal as he read to our little boy. It was just us and it meant everything to be able to live in the moment and just be happy where I was.

I'm so grateful that Neal are starting our own eternal family by bringing Liam into this world. The poem ends with,
"You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!"

Don't wait for things to happen to you. Realize the blessings that you have now and make every moment count. The Lord sends us so many blessing each day and we are able to see His hands in our lives when we realize all that He's doing for us.
