Saturday night was our annual Charity Game for the Dixie Rebels. This year they chose Abby Doman and her family to help. Abby is a young girl from St. George who is in need of a heart transplant. A couple weeks ago she passed out during PE. Her teacher performed CPR until the EMT's got there but she had already been dead for 7 minutes. They were able to bring her back to life and get her up to Primary Children's in time for her heart surgery. She has a condition that calls for her to need a new heart. She is on the waiting list for a heart transplant.
Her sweet mom is a single mother to three beautiful kids. She is currently staying with Abby up in Salt Lake awaiting for a new heart to come in while her other two kids are down here in St. George. Abby wasn't able to make it to the game on Saturday but her mom and siblings came out. Abby's mom did the coin toss at the beginning of the game and walked out hand in hand with the starting players.
It was so amazing to see the community pull together for this sweet family. Abby's transplant is going to cost 1.5 million. Her monthly prescription medications alone cost around $7,000. All proceeds went to the family that night and we were able to raise a little over $4,000!!!
There have already been BBQ's, bake sales, and charity events to help out this family. We plan on doing a couple more events throughout the summer to help out little Abby! :)
