16 Weeks!

16 Weeks! *I found another fun survey while perusing the “mommy blogs”. It’s worth changing it up every week :) Do you know what you are taking with you to the hospital?: Not yet, but I’m sure that there is a specific list of things I’ll need to take. I’ll find it in one of my many pregnancy books haha But- if you have any suggestions on what I’ll need or want, PLEASE leave me a comment with some tips!

Who is going to be with you?: Honestly, I’ve thought a lot about it but Neal and I haven’t really talked about it. Obviously Neal will be there with me, right by my side, holding my hand as I scream at him, “WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME!?!”. I’ve also thought about having my parents and in-laws in the room as well. My only request is that my dad and father-in-law stay on the OTHER side of the sheet. No need for them to see that… I will lose all dignity. But who knows how I’ll really feel until I’m in labor. I’m sure this will change over the course of the pregnancy and during labor.

Are you going to videotape it?: H to the No. I can see why people would want to but it’s just not something that I feel like I need to have on video tape. I’m sure there will be a lot of picture taking and that will be enough for me.

Natural or medicated?: During my first appointment with the doctor he asked me the same question. Without hesitation I quickly replied, “epidural, for sure”. There was a reason Heavenly Father allowed me to be on earth during a time that modern medicine can take away a lot of the pain :)

Do you think you will need a c-section?: Maybe. And every time I say that women always respond back, “Don’t think like that! Just focus on having the baby naturally and you’ll do fine”. I wish I could think that way but a c-section is a huge reality for me because of my mother. With both children, her hips never moved out enough to allow enough room in the birth canal for the babies. Because of that, she had to have c-sections both times. My mom and I have very similar builds, however, I’m a lot smaller than she was. Therefore, I know that a c-section might be in the works for me :/ But because I feel like I’m preparing myself for it (mentally), it won’t be as big of a shock if it does happen.

Will you cry with you hold your baby for the first time?: Most definitely. How could I not? :)

Do you think the daddy will cry?: Oh, of course. He’s so excited so I can’t imagine the moment he gets to hold our son for the first time. The water works have already started for me just thinking about Biggy Nealsons holding our baby boy!!!

Do you know what you will say to the baby when you first hold him/her?: Hello?

Are you scared about the labor?: Not yet, I try not to think about it. I’m just going to hope for the best and trust my doctor and his staff to do what’s right for the baby and I.

Have you felt the baby move?: MAYBE. And I only say that because the movement was so suddle. I went to SLC for a business trip last week. When I was waiting at the airport for Neal to pick me up I could feel small flutters. I tried holding as still as possible to see if it was really him or me just imagining it. Now that I’m at 16 weeks I should be feeling him soon! I can’t wait until I know for sure that it’s him moving and not me over thinking it J

What race(s) will your baby be? From you and daddy?: Weird question. My friend Mallory would say White… aka Caucasian. We’re both Irish… and I have to say that very loosely because Neal isn’t FULL Irish but I let it slide when we got married because he’s quite the catch regardless of his European mutt genes. I like to compare him to Harry Potter.. he’s a “half-blood”.

Do you have stretch marks yet?: No, but I can feel that my stomach is starting to pop out a little bit. I don’t feel like the bloated feeling or pudgy around my waistline, it literally looks like my stomach is starting to balloon out.AH! Am I ready for this?!?!

What was your first symptom?: Morning Sickness that lasted all day. Which I thought would end at 12 weeks- nope. Then I thought it would end at 16 weeks- nope. It will all be worth it, it will all be worth it, it will all be worth it…:)

What is the baby's room theme?: I’m having anxiety over this right now. It literally kept me up last night! This weekend we set up the nursery! We now have the crib, changing table, bookshelf, and chair all ready to go :) The furniture is all black and the room and chair are tan. So I’m trying to figure out what I like best. Do I want to decorate with a brick red color and white? Or do I go with just navy blue and white accents all over? I just don’t know yet. My mom is coming down to St. George for my birthday this month so I’m hoping to get some great ideas from her J Overall though, I want it to be very modern. I don’t want the typical little boys nursery. I’m excited to see how it turns out! :)

What was the first thing you bought for the baby?: 4 years ago, while I was in college, I bought a 3-6 month St. Patrick’s Day onsie J I kept it in my “wedding notebook” ever since. It’s so funny because I always worried that my first baby wouldn’t fit into it because of the timing but with Liam it actually worked out :) UNLESS, he’s just a little monster and won’t fit into the right size. But for now, he’s right on schedule to wear that onsie to celebrate our favorite family holiday! :)

If you already have kids, how do you think they will adjust to the new baby?: We don’t have kids but we do have two doggy children, does that count? I think so. I’m excited to see how they will react to the new baby. They’re new place to hang out is the nursery. They will just wander in there on their own to sit and stare at the crib set. They look pretty confused. Or maybe they are just trying to figure out how to get into the thing to rip apart the adorable teddy bear? Who knows.

Will you cloth diaper?: I’m not opposed to it. I have some friends that use them and love it! I can definitely see the perks of using diaper clothes but I just don’t know if I’d be diligent enough. I feel like I’d rather just take the easy way out and go with regular diapers. I guess it also depends on the economy and how expensive diapers get next year. Inflation is not supposed to be good to us this year :/

What is your favorite pregnancy book?: I don’t really have a favorite. Lately I’ve just been relying on my weekly updates from babycenter.com – I love this website! :)

What do you look forward to doing again once you are no longer pregnant?: I don’t feel like I’ve been really limited yet… oh wait… brownie batter. I look forward to eating brownie batter once I’m no longer pregnant.

What physical features do you hope the baby will get from daddy?: His lips. That sounds really weird but it’s true! Looking at our last ultra sound I could tell he doesn’t have my lips which is probably a good thing since they are so small and undefined.

What physical features do you hope the baby will get from you?: I think he has my nose, based of his profile shot last time. I’m excited to get more pictures in 3 weeks to see how much he’s grown and developed. From what we could tell, he’s got Neal’s lips and forehead, and my nose :) I can’t wait to finally meet him! :)
