Kalamity 2010 Benefit Concert

I cannot believe that our concert has finally come and gone! It came way too fast for me. We, as a team, have been working towards this goal for over 1o months now. I was so excited to finally reach this goal with my team by putting on a successful benefit concert to help support the Slack Family.

This year, all of our proceeds went to the Slack family. If you want to learn more about them, please check out dylanandrileyslack.blogspot.com

The week before the show my team was able to meet Riley. I was in Salt Lake for Thanksgiving so I wasn't able to meet her just yet. They said that she loved being able to come to the studio and meet all of the dancers. It got our team even more excited for our concert!

Neal's sweet parents were so supportive by driving down late friday night to make it to my concert on Saturday. They are amazing and I couldn't have asked for better parents!

Friday's concert was good but Saturday's was even better! I'm so glad that we were able to do two shows this year! It was definitely worth it because we were able to raise even more money for the family.

Saturday afternoon was spent with my family. Charlene and I were able to go shopping and run some errands while the boys stayed home to watch football. Neal's favorite.

We met up with our brother Scott for dinner at the Olive Garden. It would have been the perfect meal before our final show but I was so nervous so I wasn't able to enjoy the food until I reached the leftovers later that night.

I said my goodbye's and off I went! I was so excited that Neal and his family were going to be able to come tonight. Neal has seen his fair share of dancing since we've known each other. And Mark... well- he's seen his fair share in the PAST! Charlene was one of the original crimson line dancers (Then the utahnians? or something like that haha) so Mark got to see a lot of dancing back in his day but he is LONG overdue. Neal and his brothers never got into dance so Mark and Charlene have some catching up to do. I'm sure with my performances, and someday our little girls performances, Mark and Charlene will get their fix of watching dance :)

Both nights of our concert went amazing! I had so much fun dancing with my best friends on stage. They are an inspiration to me and keep me young (we've got a lot of 18 yr olds on there that keep me hip). We had a blast performing our dances that we've been working so hard on all year.

During our final bows, sweet little Riley got up on stage and danced with all of us. She was a star! Tears were streaming down all of our cheeks as we got to dance in the presence of that sweet little girl. She was in heaven being able to be up on the "big stage" with the "big girls". I couldn't help but hurt for her sweet parents that won't get to raise this child to adulthood. It brought me great comfort to know that their family is sealed in the temple and someday the Slacks will be able to raise both of their children.

It was a total blessing to be able to put on this concert for Riley and her family this year. I feel honored to be on a team that is willing to support such a great cause. We are all so blessed and we need to help uplift those around us and bear their burdens. The audience of supporters was AMAZING and we ended up raising over $3,500 for the family in just two nights. We had so much support from our families, friends, and the community. It was overwhelming.

I am already looking forward to next years benefit concert. I hope that I am able to be apart of this team and this cause for a very long time :)
